Visit from Bayview Vets

The AVA PetPEP School Visit Program was greatly received by students on Thursday 16th May. Ann Johnson from Bayview Veterinary Surgery visited with her massive, but very sooky dog, Jess. Ann told us about some of the things we need to do to look after our pets like giving them fresh water, good food and taking them to the vet when they are sick or need vaccinations.
The highlight was when Ann invited the students to give Jess a pat and a tickle on her tummy. Many students got the opportunity to listen to the dogs heartbeat, they counted the beats using a stop watch.  One student who initially had been afraid to go close to the dog was proud to say she loved dogs now!
Students from Christine wrote the following list about what they learnt during the visit:
Taylor learnt how to pat a dog and handle it safely,
Chloe learnt that dogs need lots of water and just the right amount of food everyday,
Skye learnt how to look after dogs and other animals,
Zac learnt that dogs like to swim,
and Kyle learnt that dogs need to be washed to keep clean so he went home and helped his mum wash his own dog!
Several of the students told their class mates about things they have done at home to care for their pets, like changing their water, taking them for walks and giving them a bath.
Thank you must go to Ann from the Bayview Veterinary Surgery, the AVA PetPEP Program and Jess, the most lovable giant dog ever! We look forward to seeing you again next year!
The students just loved it!   Check out our photos:
