Good bye Ray and Barb

15/03/2012
Last week we regretfully say goodbye to Barb and Ray, who have been responsible for transporting our students from the southern suburbs of Hervey Bay for what seems a lifetime, in the trusty Wide Bay Transit bus. I had some initial doubts about the wisdom of transporting so many of our students in one vehicle. Such doubts were well and truly put to rest after the first few weeks as Barb and Ray showed us all that they were ‘naturals’ at dealing with the odd temper tantrum and arguments about seating arrangements. Our students will miss them terribly, so if there are some teary children arriving home today you will know the cause.
Barb has been something of a surrogate mother figure for some of our students as she has that natural warmth and empathy, which our students recognise very quickly. Ray has that quiet authority and sense of humour which is vital in relating to our students. Together they make a formidable team and I have to admit to using them as de facto members of staff to convey messages to parents when a letter may not have been appropriate. They have been a real asset to this school and I will certainly  miss them  as I am sure will staff and parents, who can be assured that with Barb and Ray students have had the very best of care.
