Clean up Australia Day

On Friday March 2nd groups 7 and 6 participated in Clean Up Australia Day as part of our citizenship program. We set off in two school buses at 9.15 armed with white collection bags (for general rubbish) yellow collection bags (for recyclable items) gloves, hand sanitiser, hats, sunscreen, water and morning tea.
Our mission?  To clean up all the rubbish in Dayman Park  at Urangan.
It was an extremely hot morning but that didn’t stop us. At first glance the park looked extremely clean with very little rubbish but once we began searching we were all surprised at how much there actually was. We found empty drink bottles, lots of chip packets, cans, rope, plastic, cigarette butts, paper , plastic straws and bottle tops.
When we had finished we emptied our rubbish into the bins in the park, where it should have gone in the first place, then washed our hands and had morning tea followed by a play in the park.
It was a great morning and it made us feel good doing something to help out in the community.  It was also great to get back to our lovely air conditioned classroom!
We look forward to participating again next year.
